- ¿Qué hay detrás de la pulsión de poseer?</p>
<p>- Cuando no hay otra forma de disfrutar los objetos, su posesión nos asegura el disfrute ilimitado, sin estar sujeto a horarios, programaciones, pago de entradas… Pero si pasamos a tener disponibilidad infinita del objeto para su disfrute, ¿por qué seguimos queriendo que sea nuestro?</p>
<p>- ¿Bajamos y acumulamos archivos porque es gratuito? ¿porque es fácil? ¿En qué momento interviene el deseo o la necesidad del archivo/objeto en sí?</p>
<p>- Nuestras colecciones digitales son frágiles, sujetas al rápido (incluso súbito) deterioro de los soportes de almacenaje, a la constante evolución de los formatos. ¿Por qué insistimos en guardar lo que está destinado a no durar?</p>
<p>- Lo acumulado, lo poseído se convierte en obligación: poseemos una creciente colección de cosas pendientes de ver, de escuchar, de leer – cosas que no queríamos o no necesitábamos realmente cuando caímos en la tentación de hacer click para descargarlas.</p>
<p>- La posesión tradicional implicaba un aspecto de ostentación. ¿Qué formas adopta la ostentación virtual? Mediante nuestras listas de “favoritos”, ”intereses”, “música que me gusta”, “libros que he leído”… ¿el estatus no está pasando a definirse por lo que sabemos/conocemos más que por lo que tenemos?</p>
<p>- ¿O se está desplazando el fetichismo de la posesión del “objeto” hacia la posesión del “canal de obtención del objeto”? ¿Ostentamos nuestras cuentas de usuario premium y nuestra velocidad de conexión, como antes presumíamos del espacio que ocupaba nuestra biblioteca?</p>
<p>- Y si esto es cierto, ¿qué implica? ¿El negocio podría desplazarse de la venta de objetos editados a la venta de canales para poseerlos? El volumen de ventas, ¿se sustituiría por el “número de reproducciones”? ¿Se perpetuaría por tanto el modelo industrial actual con un adecuado lavado de cara… o habría más espacio para alternativas independientes, signifique eso lo que signifique?</p>
<p>- ¿Se podría ser un gran coleccionista virtual sin poseer un solo archivo en nuestro disco duro?</p>

<p>- What lies beneath the urge to possess?</p>
<p>- When there’s no other way to enjoy objects, their possession guarantees their unlimited enjoyment, without being subject to timetables, programs, ticket fares… But if we’re granted infinite availability of the object for its enjoyment, why do we still want it to be ours?</p>
<p>- Do we download and accumulate files because they’re free? Because it’s easy? When does desire or need of the object/file itself intervene?</p>
<p>- Our digital collections are fragile, subject to the quick (even sudden) deterioration of storage devices, to the constant evolution in formats. Why do we insist in keeping what is bound not to last?</p>
<p>- The accumulated, the possessed turns into obligation: we possess a growing collection of things waiting to be watched, listened to, read – things we didn’t really want of need when we were tempted to click and download.</p>
<p>- Traditional possession implied its ostentation. What shapes does virtual ostentation take? Through our lists of “favorites”, “interests”, “music I like”, “books I’ve read”… isn’t status being defined by what we know rather than by what we have?</p>
<p>- Or is fetish being displaced from the possession of the “object” to the possession of the “channel” for obtaining it? Do we show off our premium user accounts and our connection speed just as we used to boast about the volume occupied by our bookshelves?</p>
<p>- And if this is true, what does it imply? Would the business move from selling edited objects to selling channels to obtain them? Would sales be measured by “number of reproductions”? Would thus the current industrial model be perpetuated after some face-washing… or would there be more room for “independent” alternatives, whatever it means?</p>
<p>- Could anyone be a great virtual collector without possessing a single file in their HDD?</p>
